During this timeframe there was a very strong emphasis on naturalistic elements and many famous jewelry design firms would observe locally and even travel to far away lands to find inspirations for their designs in flowers, insects and other attributes in nature. The present piece is a very unique extremely well designed for the late 1800s French Art Nouveau 18kt Yellow Gold Brooch designed as a Bumble Bee sitting atop a four leaf clover with incorporation extremely fine detail paid to the bee using tiger eye cabochons and onyx to the bumble bee's body and ruby as eyes to give it an extra lifelike effect of a real bumble bee. The four leave clovers are also in very good condition and have a textured three dimensional finish with special attention to the stem and leaves at the base where the Bumble Bee is connected. The bumble bee is also in excellent condition given its age with no stones missing and no repair marks to the mount or cracks to the tiger eye which produces a life like "fuzz" effect along center of the body. Additionally adding to the effect there is onyx cut into individual pieces which at this time would be require increased skill level to alternate the gems body with hard stone to create a stripe effect.
For this time period, it would be considered a very unique design when compared with other brooch designs that aimed to create the same motif. The dimensions are 46mm height by 36mm across from stem base to clover leaf end.
