A large antique French Louis Philippe mirror from France circa 1875. The elegant shape of this Louis Philippe mirror showcases a rare decorative embellishment in each corner depicting grape clusters on a grapevine.
Seen in each of the four corners the raised decoration provides a handsome counterpoint to the gold leaf on the frame. In our experience mirrors with this specific grape motif were usually associated with families in the wine producing business who enjoyed a subtle reminder of their closeness to viniculture. Please notice that the frame also bears an incised decorative pattern between the corners amplifying the natural organic motifs used elsewhere. Adjacent to the original mirror glass with its customary speckles and spots indicating antique mirror is a slender thread of raised beads known in France as "les perles". The balance in scale and proportion and decoration on this antique mirror is exceptional.
