In France the term "pareclose" is used to define this particular type of mirror. Please look at the central cartouche at the top of the mirror centred on an architectural framework defined by a trellis background enclosing a grand scale fleur-de-lys.
The sculptural quality of the design elements complements the scale of the mirror and glistens with the seductive power of gleaming gold leaf. The large central mirror is beveled and is enclosed by a slender gold leaf frame set with half spheres that resembles a strand of pearls. Set within the larger outer frame are the four separate rectangular mirrors each placed at an angle to the center. By being set on the angle these mirrors actually reflect a greater portion of the room and project a visual sense of grandeur and sweep.
