Antique Victorian Napoleon III snake ring. 18k yellow gold, rose cut diamonds and cabochon emerald. Made in France 2nd half 19th century (circa 1860-80).
Measurements: Weight is 8.4 grams. Size approx US 6 3/4. Description : Ring in the form of a snake, the body coiling multiple times around the finger - like 4 stacking rings in one. The surface of the yellow gold is hammered for a more organic, naturalistic appearance. The neck and head of the snake, as well as his nose are set with graduated rose cut diamonds.
The center of the head with a cabochon emerald at least as high as it is in diameter. The eyes are smaller cabochon emeralds. This is a wonderful, wearable and attractive design, beautifully made.
During the 19th century, this kind of French workmanship gave France first place in the world of jewelry. Marks: French owl mark, indicating 18k gold.
